In this season of the shortest days of the year, we celebrate love and friendship to remind us of the good in the world.

Heart-felt gifts wrapped in brightly (or not-so-brightly) colored paper are piled under trees, or in over-sized stockings, or perhaps just in a corner of the family room. In the excitement and anticipation of the day those presents will be opened, it is very easy to become greedy. It's because of this that I believe this time of year is a better time to think of things you have already that make you thankful, more so than last month's Thanksgiving. Especially with Black Friday ruining the spirit of that holiday just hours after celebrating.

Sorry if I sounded preachy, but I couldn't think of a better way to state it.
So without further ado, here is a list of things I'm thankful for as this year comes to a close:

:bulletgreen: I'm thankful for the internet. I'm part of the last generation that remembers what it was like without it. So I understand how easy it makes life, and how wondrous it is to be able to get an answer for almost any question that pops into your head. It connects you instantly with people on the other side of the planet. It makes it possible to replace lost memorabilia, and to find that perfect gift for your loved one. Imagine what it would be like without the internet. I'm truly thankful for it.

:bulletred: I'm thankful for my art skills. My attention to detail makes art that I am always proud of.

:bulletgreen: I'm thankful for my crafting skills. With my broad knowledge of how things can be attached to other things, and how things can be woven, I thankfully know my hands will never be bored.

:bulletred: I'm thankful for my wonderful boyfriend, who all but officially my fiance. He is my other half. The things I can't do, he can. He supports me when I can't support myself, in more ways than one. He completes me, as cliche a it may sound. He is always there for me when I need it most. He never judges me. He loves all facets of me, even the most embarrassing. I always fear that I'll take him for granted.

:bulletgreen: I'm thankful for my family. They are such a diverse group. They make me smile, make me think, make me grow, and I love them all.

:bulletred: I'm thankful for all my true friends. They know how to make me smile and are always there when I need them.

:bulletgreen: I'm thankful for all you watchers out there, reading this now. Your support is more appreciated and precious to me than you know.

:bulletred: I am thankful for the opportunity to make some of my art into a small collection of prized possessions. You have no idea how cool that feels.

:bulletgreen: I'm thankful for my life thus far; my travels and my experiences. They have made me the person I am today.

:bulletred: I'm thankful for chocolate. OMG. Just, yes. Chocolate. Dark, dark chocolate. In all its forms.

:bulletgreen: But mostly I am thankful for the fact that I always told my mother I loved her. I'm thankful for all the things she taught me. (That would be the attention to detail and crafting stuff! As well as other things.) I'm thankful for all the times we just hung out or went shopping for craft stuff. I'm thankful for all the stories she told me about her life. I'm thankful for all the pictures she took. I'm thankful for all the support she gave me whenever my life changed. I'm thankful that I always hugged her goodbye. I'm just thankful that I know that she knew I always loved her.

Thank You.

What are you thankful for this year?

You know seeing journals like this talking about what we should be thankful for and to cherish the things and people we have around makes me feel very happy.
Well I'm thankful for a couple of things:
1) I'm very thankful that the show MLP: Friendship is Magic is still going strong. It makes me glad that a show about the benefits of being kind to others is getting attention.
2) I'm very glad to know that there is still kindness in the world. It helps put my heart in solace to know that they are still good people in the world.
3) I'm glad to find DA users like you who are not only creative but very kind and considerate.

So Merry Christmas Akili! :glomp:
